Sustainability
Committed to sustainability as a shared responsibility, iCROPM 2026 embraces sustainable
ambitions by encouraging conscious choices to reduce environmental impact and promote collective well-being, while fostering responsible practices within the international crop modelling community.
Food Surplus Recovery
iCROPM 2026 has joined the Food for Good project by Federcongressi&eventi, Banco Alimentare, and Equoevento Onlus.

iCROPM 2026 will:
- Not print the scientific program, which will be available on the congress website.
- If printing is necessary, use FSC-certified paper.
- Provide stations and bins to encourage waste separation.
- For the setups, give priority to materials produced locally, reused from other setups, and/or made from recycled and/or certified materials.
- Use disposable utensils if they are made from biodegradable and compostable materials.
- Provide information to participants regarding the option to reach the congress venue using public transportation.
- Ensure the location is accessible and safe for all people with disabilities.
- Aim to generate a positive impact on society through special projects.
- Select hotels within walking distance of the congress venue.
- Use local suppliers to reduce the environmental impact of transportation.
- Collaborate with partners committed to reducing their carbon footprint and who have already implemented sustainable practices in their operations.
- Choose local menus for social events.
Within the framework of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS), ICROPM 2026 promotes initiatives aimed at fulfilling the following SDGS:
SDG 2 – Zero Hunger: Crop modelling research supports the development of strategies to increase food availability and productivity, including in vulnerable and resource-limited environments, contributing to global food security under changing climatic conditions.

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: The iCROPM Congress fosters global collaboration among crop modelling experts to share knowledge, best practices, and advancements that contribute to improving food safety, reducing emissions associated with agricultural production, and promoting more efficient use of inputs and reduced reliance on agro-chemicals, crop modelling contributes to healthier food systems and improved human well-being.

SDG 4 – Quality Education: iCROPM fosters international collaboration by connecting researchers, model developers, and scientists from around the world, encouraging knowledge sharing, capacity building, and the advancement of education and research in crop modelling.

SDG 5 – Gender Equality: iCROPM promotes equal participation of women and men in scientific discussions, leadership roles, and decision-making processes within the crop modelling community. The event encourages diversity and inclusivity among speakers, researchers, and participants.

SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: Research presented at iCROPM addresses improved water and nutrient management, including optimized fertiliser use, reduced nitrogen losses, enhanced irrigation efficiency, and the reduction of resource waste in agricultural systems.

SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: The iCROPM Congress strives to minimize waste by using recyclable materials and adopting sustainable practices in the production and distribution of event materials.

SDG 13 – Climate Action: Crop modelling plays a central role in understanding climate change impacts, supporting adaptation and mitigation strategies, and informing climate-resilient agricultural practices across all symposium themes and sessions.

SDG 15 – Life on Land: iCROPM contributes to sustainable land-use management through studies on forestation, desertification, and agricultural practices that support ecosystem health, biodiversity, and the long-term sustainability of terrestrial ecosystems.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: The iCROPM Congress fosters collaborations with organizations that advocate for sustainability, to drive collective action toward achieving sustainable development goals.

Eco-Friendly Tips
Let’s work together to respect and care for our planet!
What you can do:
- Prefer public transportation (train, metro, or bus), shared mobility (carpooling), or active mobility (biking, walking) to reach the congress venue.
- When possible, opt for trains instead of flights to reduce carbon emissions.
- Consider offsetting your carbon emissions through offset programs. If you fly, book direct flights and avoid stopovers to minimize emissions.
- If taking a taxi, try to share it with your colleagues.
- Purchase local products and artisanal goods to support the economy and reduce environmental impact.
- Use a reusable water bottle to avoid single-use plastic bottles.
- Use the Congress website to consult the conference program.
- Dispose of waste correctly by using designated recycling bins.
- Consume food responsibly to minimize waste.
